Vision and Values
Our vision is to be a thriving, inclusive, village school where every child is valued and supported, working closely with families and the community. We provide accessible, ambitious education for all pupils ensuring every child can grow in confidence, curiosity and belonging.
At South Stoke Primary School, every individual is valued for who they are and what they contribute to the school. Our values and aims are intended to support the personal, social and spiritual development of every pupil throughout the school.
Everyone is responsible for promoting values and recognising where others are ‘living the values’. The values developed have been selected after consultation with pupils, staff, governors and parents as values that are important within the school community and which will be important throughout life.
Our values are: Confidence, Compassion and Curiosity.
At our school, we value Confidence and encourage every child to believe in themselves, share their ideas and embrace new opportunities. We love seeing pupils contribute to class discussions, present their work, join in activities and games, and demonstrate positive body language. Confidence also shines through when children make new friends, volunteer for responsibilities and work independently. We want to see even more pupils stepping outside their comfort zones, expressing their opinions respectfully, speaking up for fairness and kindness, and approaching challenges with resilience. We encourage children to recognise that mistakes are valuable opportunities for learning and growth.
Compassion is at the heart of our school community. We are proud to see pupils helping others with their learning, including everyone in games and group activities, sharing resources, and celebrating the successes of their peers. Our children show kindness, tolerance and fairness, creating a welcoming environment where everyone feels valued. We aspire to see even more spontaneous acts of kindness, with pupils noticing when others may need support, welcoming new or younger children, and considering how their words, tone of voice and body language can positively impact those around them.
We believe that Curiosity inspires lifelong learning and helps children develop a deeper understanding of the world. We love seeing pupils ask questions, explore new ideas, investigate topics, engage with books and learning resources, solve problems and enjoy discovering the world around them. Curiosity is evident when children take pride in their achievements, explore nature, invent games and think creatively. We want to nurture even greater independence in learning by encouraging pupils to pursue their own questions, think more deeply, carry out research, and develop an interest in the wider world beyond the classroom.
We also use the British values across to school. These are:
- Democracy
- Rule of Law
- Individual liberty
- Mutual respect and tolerance for other cultures, faiths and beliefs
Values support quality teaching and learning, whilst making a positive contribution to the development of a fair, just and civil society.
We aim to:
- Improve behaviour, conduct and self confidence by developing strong values within the pupils at the school.
- Develop pupils’ understanding of what values are and why they are important in life.
- Encourage children to ‘live the values’.
- Promote values to pupils in every aspect of school life.
- Promote values in the way in which adults interact with each other and with pupils.
- Display our school values and encourage all visitors to take account of them in their time in the school.
- Encourage parents to support the programme at home by promoting the ‘value of the month’.
- Enable children to focus upon the positive aspects of themselves that they can value; reminding them of their individual worth, their worth in the school and wider communities and the worth of others.
- Raise standards by promoting a school ethos that is underpinned by core values which support the development of the whole child as a reflective learner within a calm, caring, happy and purposeful atmosphere
- Link our school values with British Values
